Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most visible moments of the annual film calendar. As of today, women directed 2 films in the main competition out of a total of 17 films for a total of just 11%.
Many women’s film festivals, organizations and institutions throughout the world have been working for several decades to improve the status of women in cinema as well as to illuminate their many accomplishments.
This event will feature individuals and organizations putting forward strategic solutions to improve the situation for female filmmakers.
The overall objectives of this meeting are to highlight women filmmakers and celebrate their work by:
• Create more opportunities for women to direct
• Create more visibility and recognition for women filmmakers
• Gender equality for women onscreen
