Production and acquisitions executive Lars Wiebe has joined leading German distributor SquareOne in the newly created role of Head of German Productions as part of the company’s new strategy to enhance its production division, it was announced today by company CEO, Al Munteanu.
On making the announcement Munteanu said: " We are very pleased to add one of the most experienced and successful professionals in the industry to our production and acquisitions team. Lars is a popular and well liked executive and is a perfect fit for SquareOne in this newly created position of Head of German Productions. In his role, Lars will source properties for German co-productions as well as source, develop and acquire German remake rights from international properties.“
Munteanu continued: “As part of a our new strategic direction, we want to be a leader in the German co-production and German production arena and Lars is going to help us achieve that goal.“

Wiebe most recently was Head of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for the Swiss film production and financing company Millbrook Pictures. Among a number of properties he handled at Millbrook he brought David Cronenberg's A DANGEROUS METHOD to the company which Millbrook co-financed. He's also one of the producers of Matthew Thompson's low budget thriller EVENT 15, a co-producer on the German family entertainment film "V8" and an executive producer on the upcoming SNOW IN PARADISE which is the directorial debut of editor Andrew Hulme (THE AMERICAN, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, THE IMPOSTER).
For the Zurich Film Festival, a sister company of Millbrook Pictures, Wiebe was a member of the programming team looking after the German language competition line up.
Before his time at Millbrook Wiebe spent five years at German distributor Prokino, where he worked in international acquisitions. During this time, Prokino acquired a number of high-profile films such as Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire" and Woody Allen's " Match Point "
Lars Wiebe is a graduate of the Munich Academy of Film and Television (HFF ).
